Using the right filter for solubility testing can make a big difference to your biorelevant solubility results. When carrying out solubility tests, samples taken must remove insoluble drug particles reproducibly and the filter must not burst. If the pore size is variable, the results will be inconsistent and if the filters burst the experiment is ruined and precious drug substance is wasted.
Importance of biorelevant solubility filters
Biorelevant solubility filters are syringeless filters and require a small amount of drug substance (<1mg) to carry out solubility experiments quickly and reliably.
Filter adsorption
Unlike dissolution filters, filter adsorption studies for the solubility filters are NOT required. This is because the filters are much smaller than dissolution filters and the filter is saturated during the solubility test.

Certificate of Conformity
We have developed our solubility filter in conjunction with Cytiva who manufacture them for us in the UK. The robust solubility filter with this depth filter is the main filter we routinely use in our own laboratory for equilibrium testing of poorly soluble drugs. Each batch comes with a Certificate of Conformity; they efficiently remove particles and are robust.
