What is Primary standard (PS) calculator?

The purpose of the primary standard is to serve as a concentrated standard/stock for subsequent preparation of secondary standard, multiple standards or dilutions of known drug concentrations.
 
Primary standard (PS) preparation

  • Accurately weigh the amount of target drug substance (correlate purity)
  • Transfer drug substance into the selected volumetric flask
  • Add organic solvent, solvent used in QC or monographic methods
  • Sonicate if needed
  • Make up to volume with organic solvent

The Actual PS weight should be inserted in the calculator so you can determine what the actual concentration of the PS is so that subsequent standards are accurate.
